The Dreamers Project | Short Documentary | Director & EditorThis mini-documentary follows The Rose Exposed, an annual event at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. During The Rose Exposed, all six performing companies housed in the center work together over the course of a single day to produce a one-time concert the same evening. Each year, the proceeds from this event go to a non-profit based in Salt Lake City. This year, the proceeds went to Art Access, a community-focused organization that strives to demonstrate that the arts are a universal vehicle for drawing out our similarities, celebrating our differences, and ultimately connecting us to each other. Art Access collaborated with the performing companies from the Rose in order to focus each piece on a distinct theme: The Dreamers. The Dreamers Project is a multi-faceted exploration of immigrant stories and identities through the literary, visual, and performing arts. We make sense of ourselves when sharing stories, and those stories evolve over time as we reconstruct our identities throughout our lives. Art Access, in close partnership with the Sorenson Unity Center, plans to utilize immigrant stories to help start conversations with the goal of encouraging people to see beyond superficial differences and to recognize our common humanity – thus building a more compassionate and engaged community. This mini-documentary was made with the intention of accompanying an NEA grant application for the Dreamers Project.
